Heitaro Kimura:
Army General, Army Commander of Burma
1888-1948
Graduated from Military Academy (age 20), Military College (age 28). In 1941, he was chief of staff of the Kwantung Army in Manchukuo. From April of 1942 to March of 1944, he was Vice-Minister of the Army. As a Vice-Minster to Prime Minister Tojo, he welcomed the idea of involving America in the war.
In August of 1945, as the Army Commander of Burma, he rebuilt parts of India as military strategy and then accepted defeat. The charges at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East included the mass killings of POWfs in Burma and because it was not judged by one of his subordinates, the sentence was harsh. With great care from the country and family, he was a great Imperial soldier.
